Image of the Week: Palladio

Submitted by Andy Marshall on January 14, 2009 – 9:11 amNo Comment

I missed posting an article on Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) in 2008 to celebrate his 500th birthday but all is not lost because I have an excuse to post this image as a pre-cursor to the forthcoming Royal Academy of Arts Exhibition in London called Andrea Palladio: His Life and Legacy.

This is apparently, the first exhibition devoted to Palladio in London for over 30 years and it comes fast on the heels of the remarkably successful Byzantium exhibition which is showing until 22 March 2009.

I travelled to Vicenza in 2005 as a part of a photo commission on the architect’s work and was mesmerised by the sheer craft of the humble ‘stone cutter’.

Here’s a review of the the exhibition by one of my favourite architecture critics Jonathan Glancey of The Guardian newspaper.

Andrea Palladio: His Life and Legacy is on at the Royal Academy of Arts London between 31 Jan 2009 and 13 Apr 2009. You can buy tickets here.
